I recently migrated “Life by Susan” to Substack for a few important reasons:
It’s made for writers AND readers—people who love words. People like me (and maybe you!).
If you subscribe, you won’t miss any of my posts. Substack will notify you when I post something new, and I’ll send many of my posts directly to your email box.
It’s much easier to use!
As I begin this new site, I wanted to take a minute to tell you where I’ve been (it’s been awhile since I last posted). When the Covid pandemic began, I had no option of sheltering in place or quarantining. The pace of my professional life increased significantly—people need ministries (and those who work in ministry) more than ever when life becomes erratic and unpredictable.
At the end of 2020, I began working full time as a writer and editor at my church, which has a media ministry with an international reach. This assignment has stretched and grown my theological understanding, my writing skills, my technical skills, and my faith. I’ve written hundreds of emails, letters, and short-form pieces. Between my job and freelance projects, I’ve helped half a dozen books come to fruition.
It’s also been a busy season at home. We launched one child into college in 2022; another is in his senior year, charting out what’s next; and the third is navigating all that comes with fourth grade. In my “spare time,” I’ve been helping my husband with various aspects of his growing business. In the midst of all of this, I’ve been too busy to pursue my own writing—until now.
One of my favorite ways to learn is through the experiences of other people, and often times that comes through reading their writing—the more honest, genuine, and real, the better. I cannot count the number of times a writer delivered a specific message I needed to hear at that moment. Others have told me my writing has done this for them—and that’s why I will return to sharing my writing on this site. I’m thankful to have you along for the journey!
